changes

My decision last week to sign away part of my freedom for six years (eight, if you count inactive reserve) does have certain consequences. For instance, whipping my late-thirty-something frame into shape is suddenly more important than rising in the blogosphere ecosystem.

There are four months and change before I leave for basic training. Besides regaining a former level of physical fitness, I must get my academic affairs in order: can't imagine that my faculty will be pleased with a many-month break from dissertation research.

This blog isn't going on hiatus—not, that is, until late July or so. But my output of material will necessarily slow. With luck I'll be able to find time for an essay or so a week in this column. There are two in the pipeline now, including one by request that is by now long overdue.

In the meantime the sideblog on the left will continue. It's cheaper than therapy.
