footprints (and other musings)

Thirty-five years ago today Apollo 11 touched down on the lunar surface. The image above is one of the most famous of that mission; the footprint belongs to Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon.
I can't recall whether or not I saw this live: July 20, 1969 was a few days before my third birthday. What I do remember from that year is that it seemed moonshots were on TV all the time. And I loved it.
Not long later I began building Saturn Vs from Legos. Or rather, trying to: save for the occasional wheel, back then all the blocks were square.
Things have changed in the meantime.
Really changed.
