There is an old proverb says, “You can lead a horse to the water, but you can't make him drink.” And apparently the lede of a Reuters story can answer a question posed by the headline, though without the editors acknowledging it.

Case in point:

Ukrainians, Russians kidnapped in Iraq - but why?

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Nobody knows why they were taken, or why so quickly released, but the kidnapping of eight employees of a Russian engineering firm has triggered calls for all Russians to leave Iraq.

Nobody knows? That seems a little strong, don't you think? I'm going to venture a guess and say that the reason eight Russians and Ukrainians were kidnapped was because the insurgents want them to, uh, leave the country.
