Return of the King countdown: intro

elessar-sm.jpg

No, it's not a Romantic-era depiction of Charlemagne defeating the Saracens, or anything else of that genre: it's this site's favorite whipping-boy, Viggo Mortensen, in his role as Aragorn II, Isildur's heir, Elessar Telcontar, King of Arnor and Gondor (though to simplify things, the movies sorta drop the “Arnor” part). Whatever my feelings may be about Mortensen and his politics, I am very much looking forward to seeing what he does with the role in the third and final installment of The Lord of the Rings.

So: to get ready for next week's premiere, beginning tomorrow I will be doing some daily Tolkien-blogging. Each entry will give a passage from the book, followed by some commentary. Spoilers will be moderate to light.

Hope you enjoy these modest efforts; as always, comments are welcome.

You know that this means that you will have to do an in depth analysis of Buckethead as well? ;-)
